Parenting  is more complicated and yet less supported than ever before.  Few of us have extended family near by, or even the watchful neighbors we may remember from our own youth.  In the rare cases where such resources are available, we still have to struggle with challenges our own parents didn’t have to face. Work and school hours are longer, family meal times are almost nonexistent, and there is little time for meaningful conversation, let alone meeting other basic needs.  The cultural shift toward relying on electronics in our daily lives means that family members are less connected with each other and with their physical community, and yet these same electronics constantly bombard our families with marketing attempts and the promotion of superficial values.

It is my hope that this website can provide some of the guidance and support that we used to be able to get from neighbors and extended family.  Over the last 30 years, I have been privileged to work directly with hundreds of families, and Parenting With Amity is my humble offering to those who would like to continue (or start!) the discussion of the challenges of raising children in today’s world.
